The Scottsdale Soap Company was inspired by an early morning drive through the Sonoran Desert. The date was February 12, 2011 and the North Scottsdale scenery viewed in the morning light was especially beautiful on that cool winter morning. With the brilliance of the day as our inspiration and our long-seeded desire to use the right "Creative" side of our brains, The Scottsdale Soap Company was conceived.
Meet Barbara and Bryan Silk. Cubicle inhabitants by day, Soap Super Heroes by nights & weekends. It starts with our love for travel as well as our appreciation of handmade items by artists and craftsman met throughout our journeys. Our passion for travel has taken us to 47 states and 9 countries and in each we would search out handmade crafts for our Scottsdale home or as gifts for Christmas. Whether it's hand crafted Pottery from South Bend, Indiana or Beach, North Dakota or hand made baskets in Ashville, North Carolina we have a great admiration for the artists and their work. We are now proud to be a part of this community in our humble way as soap makers.
With soap making books in hand we enrolled in a soap making class at the Nova Studio in picture-perfect Point Richmond, California. We found our true mentor, Debbie Chialtas, world-renowned master soapmaker and author. It was the most wonderful experience, fun and blissful with creative energy filling each moment of that memorable and productive weekend.
